The Quiet Signs of Spring
I keep coming back to an email subject line earlier this week. It said, “Spring arrives like a quiet promise.”
It’s stuck with me all week. What does that even mean? What’s quiet about it?
Spring is here. Or at least the next 10 days sure look and feel like it.
But the signs are starting to show up.
The daffodils are popping up. One of nature’s earliest signals that things are about to change. And maybe get a little better. Quiet signs, maybe, but they sure are showy.
Then there are the allergies. When a coworker has to make an emergency Dollar General run for allergy medicine, you know something has shifted.
Another sign? Losing an hour of sleep this weekend doesn’t sting quite as much when you know longer evenings are on the way.
And the baby chicks are back at Southern States in Dallas. I don’t hunt, but I do hunt for things to do with the kids. The fact that we can burn 45 minutes walking around Southern States tells me spring has arrived.
The best part is walking out the door and telling my wife, “I’m going to go look for chicks.”
And she says, “OK.”
Maybe that quiet promise is simply this: the little signs around us that remind us something better is on the way.
And if you look around, you’ll start to see them everywhere.
